And then, there are the unicorn bottles. Sometimes you know something is precious and within your grasp so you make a plan to have it. I am the determined type of girl that usually finds a way to achieve her goals.

A rare whisky that I had to both research and go back for seconds of, because if you like Piña Coladas or getting caught in the rain – this whisky is one of a kind.

There is no better way to spend a Friday afternoon There is no better way to spend a Friday afternoon than amongst the stills, casks and library stock of a distillery. I can’t wait to share the stories and flavours of this place with you all ... but in the meantime make sure you’re paying attention to @nzrumco .... great things are about to be available to the public. #nzdistillers #nzspirits
Study journey commences now. This first step will Study journey commences now. This first step will probably be short and sweet but it is what will lead to the end goal: becoming a master of whisky. It’s a great time to put the ‘on the job’ learning of the last decade into a study programme that will help develop and expand my knowledge and skill. Grateful for the guidance and support of Michael Fraser-Milne from @whiskygalorenz and excited for what the @councilofwhiskeymasters will bring. As always, Charles Maclean’s study texts are rich and full of knowledge.

There’s only one beer we drink around here and i There’s only one beer we drink around here and it’s not red like a fire engine, nor does it have a little lion on it. But it does have a great big Scottish heart and a coo on the label. Nothing says summer like McLeod’s. @mcleodsbrewerynz

Rare and special things are found within barrels. Rare and special things are found within barrels. I’ve been saying for a while that marvellous things are afoot in the New Zealand whisky story and this year will really add something special to the narrative. Some of the best and biggest surprises have been slowly gathering flavour in these gorgeous barrels for some time. Something wonderful is coming soon. #waihekewhisky @waihekewhisky

POEM: When the streets are full of sunlight, newsp POEM:
When the streets are full of sunlight, newsprint but absent of voices - may you take courage in the welcome.
Remember the blessing of voices raised warm and resonant over the bells of silverware and crystal - the laugh that trills and exclamation mark of thrown back head.
Take heart in the welcome of dirty plates, bursting flavour and mismatched plates because -
the welcome is that kaleidoscopic, flung wide open door and feast-laden table for finding justice and settling old score.
May you remember, in quiet office and empty street, staring at the same walls and art - the sky is still a painting on a grey day.
Food nourishes even after the weary argument and standoff.
Departure does not diminish the welcome, which was always the gift.

Drinking non-alcoholic doesn’t have to be boring Drinking non-alcoholic doesn’t have to be boring nor does it just have to be about the booze. A gentle non-alcoholic palate refresher is a great way to wake up the tastebuds. Starting off right - Garden Flower made with @seedlipaus_nz @seedlipdrinks @cookandnelson at @onslow.nz - taking advantage of the summer to peruse Auckland’s new openings.
